Long Time Coming

Time for an update! Due to tremendous amounts of school work and my BS degree growing ever nearer I have had little time for postcards. Now on summer break with one year of school left I am going to squeeze in as many as I can!

The photo is my fantastically loud, wonderfully awesome, and sadly poor functioning electric typewriter. Sitting next to it is the not mine iPad that I use to check spelling and get addresses.

Some info about the postcards I send: postcards DO NOT fit in a typewriter and I have truly terrible handwriting. No seriously should have been a doctor. So I type my message on banana fiber paper and tape them to the postcard. This is good for another reason. Some of these cards as you can see get mailed a very long way. The tape prevents the message from being damaged or rubbed off, especially on glossy postcards. I've been doing postcard/penpal stuff for awhile now and this seems to be the best method.

Need A Bigger Variety

Yan from China requested maps, flags, royalty, cartoons, famous scenery, and library postcards. I have none, none, and none. I have tons of famous buildings, but scenery not so much. I finally chose the Dunes. They may not be very famous but they hold a special place in my heart and childhood. My dad built Dune Buggies.

First One

My first card to Switzerland! Marchenfee requested cats, fairy tales, or illustrations. As I browsed my many postcards, I fell short for the second time. Already out of animals, I have never had fairy tale cards. This is the closest I could get to an 'illustrations' card. Hope they like it.

Cycling

Marieke said that she likes to watch cycling and likes landscapes postcards. This one I nailed. A photo of Eagle Creek, landscape, where my husband and I sometimes go to ride.

Animals

Klaus from Germany asked for animals, this would just be the first time I felt unprepared today. After searching through literal stacks and books of postcards this was the ONLY animal that I had. The Indiana state bird, this is male cardinal. My stock is now animal-less. I will add it to the shopping list.

Dmitry from Russia asked for horror, weird, vintage, or funny. I thought I did pretty good. Baby doing pull-ups is both vintage, weird, and funny. Hope it brings a smile to his face.

Caught up!

All received postcards are finally posted and I hope to have the time to start sending more again soon.

Also time permitting I will be sharing postcard from my childhood, the ones that made me fall in love with the little rectangles of paper.

Above is a postcard I received from my grandpa while he was traveling in Ireland, I have no idea when I received this. Also below is a picture of the amazing man himself, everyone called him Boss, but I just called him grandpa.

And yes the little person in his arms is me and yes I am eating pork rinds.

Last but not least

On 4/1/10 (April Fool's Day) I received a little piece of Autumn from Shirley in Ontario, Canada. Her handwriting was the mirror image of my Grandmother's handwriting, so I was not surprised to find out she was a mother and grandmother.

First Card From China

I received this card from Jessie in China. She expressed an interest in being pen-friends. Doesn't pen-friends sound so much more inviting that pen-pals?

I received a postcard from Jaana in Finland. I just wish I knew what the card said. Google's translator says that "ovi onneen aukeaa ulospain" means "door to happiness opens outward". If that is the correct translation then I think I can agree with that. This card was also received on 3/23/2010. Another Two-Card Day!

Leo is his name

Mailed 3/8/2010 and received 3/23/2010. I received "Best Wishes from the end of the world!!!" Leo from Argentina wrote a simple postcard about the Victoria Bridge, but I was really just excited that my nephew is also named Leo. This is also my first postcard from Argentina.

Taking an Unwanted Break

I have four post cards that need to be scanned and blogged but that probably is not going to happen for a while. I am currently taking an English course that crams a whole semesters worth of work into five weeks. And this class is kicking my butt.

I will be back in May with more postcards that have been received and mailed. Also I'll talk about my new "pen-friend".

Two in One Day

I was lucky enough to see two postcards when I opened the mailbox this afternoon. It was a good day!




This post card came from Arnhem, Netherlands and is of the Airborne museum near there. If you can read it here is their website.



This card also comes from the Netherlands. The author has a Jack Russell to which I feel we now have a real bond because my little Lew is also a Jack Russell.

Bright Colors

Elena from Russia said that she likes bright colors and views of the country. So today I sent her some flower in the country.

Drive -In

Sent to Barbara in the Netherlands, the fifth card to the Netherlands, she ask me to send a postcard of something I love. I love the drive-in movie theater. Especially Tibbs which I did not have a post card for but can be found here. Many happy post crossing!

Typewriter

Also on the list of things to do: Get Typewriter serviced.

I know I can hand write the postcards but the truth is that I prefer to type them AND I have terrible handwriting. So I need a new scanner and visit to the typewriter doc.

Update

So it has been a long time since I have sent or received a postcard through postcrossing. I do still love the site and want to continue. I plan on making this a more active blog just as soon as I get a new scanner. My last one has died.

Still have your Strawberries!

So I have sent three cards to Finland but this is my first from Finland. I am guessing from the postcard that the town pictured on the front was annexed? into another town causing them to lose the right to call themselves the second smallest town. So the sender does not seem very happy about that and I'm sorry, but your strawberries look yummy!

Nature Lover

And another post card with awesome stamps, I'm really going to have to start scanning those too. Lorena from Canada loves to feed the squirrels in her yard and thinks chipmunks are cute. She also squeezed a quote into the margins: "Always laugh when you can, It is the cheapest medicine"

From a Hotel

Aina from Kelantan, Malaysia loves cycling and has three sisters. I do prefer not to get the ad postcards but as they go this one is not too ad-y. Honestly the bird on the stamp was the coolest. Maybe I should scan that.
